Contraste entre «The Holy War» del puritano John Bunyan y «De Civitate Dei» de san Agustín de Hipona

El artículo rastrea la posible influencia indirecta de la doctrina agustiniana de la relación entre las dos ciudades en De Civitate Dei en la alegoría The Holy War del predicador calvinista John Bunyan. Para ello, se enmarca al autor puritano en su contexto histórico político y religioso; se ofrece luego una cuádruple interpretación de la alegoría —en el plano individual, eclesial, social y escatológico— en la que se subrayan el enfrentamiento de los dos partidos de la guerra y la soteriología de la predestinación; finalmente, se contrasta la visión de Bunyan con el modo análogo en que san Agustín presenta la relación —tensa, conflictiva, pero también de cierta tregua y convivencia— entre la ciudad terrena y la ciudad de Dios.
